OPA condemns police brutality

The Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka yesterday strongly condemnned the atrocities committed by Police officers and urged the authorities concerned to contain this unfortunate trend.

The OPA requested the authorities to take all necessary steps to bring offenders under the rule of law as early as possible and take firm preventive action to avoid similar happenings in the future.

It vehemently condemned recent police brutalities, in particular the murder of two youths in Angulana and the inhuman torture afflicted upon a student studying in SLIIT, Malabe. Fast action to bring culprits under the rule of law will contribute not only to confidence in the government but will help establish the country’s image universally as an upholder of human rights, the OPA said.
