Chief Government Whip, Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister, Dinesh Gunawardena said that the Urban Development Authority or any other department coming under his purview has no connection with the demolition of unauthorised constructions in Colombo last week.
"My Ministry is not for demolition, but for construction. I stress that the UDA nor any of its officials was involved in any demolition or removal of unauthorised structures in the city last week", he said.
Minister Gunawardena was answering a question raised by JVP Parliamentary Group Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
MP Dissanayake said that a large number of shops in Colombo and Pettah had been demolished last week and demanded to know under whose instructions the demolition was carried out. He alleged that the UDA had carried out the forcible removal of unauthorised constructions. (SI)
