Wife of former Colombo Crime Division (CCD) chief SSP
Vas Gunawardena, Shyamali Priyadharshani Perera Gunawardena, wanted by
the Police in connection with the assault on a student of the Sri Lanka
Institute of Information Technology, Malabe, surrendered to the CCD
yesterday.
Her son, Ravindu Gunawardena, along with six policemen
attached to the CCD were earlier remanded till August 31.
Police sources said Mrs Gunawardena would be produced
before a Magistrate after her statement was recorded. Her husband SSP
Vas Gunawardena has been transferred to Police headquarters following
the incident.
