Wimal’s man contributes to culture of waste

Newly appointed non-Cabinet Minister of Cultural Affairs Piyasiri Wijenayake of the National Freedom Front (NFF) has rented a car at Rs. 268,650 a month Parliament was told yesterday.

The Ministry had paid a petrol bill of Rs. 108,290 for the month of July.

UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekara said Wijenayake had pumped 833 litres of petrol litres last July.

"Is he spending so much to take his colleague MP Wimal Weerawansa to Sigiriya or the Adam’s Peak?" he queried.

When Achala Jagoda, MP got up to defend his senior colleagues raising a point of order, Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara said that the MP could not be permitted to do so in accordance with standing orders.
