The government will shortly decide whether to axe the
exemption of CEB workers from PAYE (pay as you earn) tax. The
arrangement has been disputed by the Auditor General and the
parliamentary watch dog on public sector waste, corruption and
irregularities.
Well informed sources told The Island that the government would have to take a firm decision on this issue before the next salary increase to CEB workers now scheduled for early next year.
