Bail refused for suspects in attack on IT student The Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court yesterday (September 1), turned down bail applications filed by the 14 suspects accused of abducting and assaulting Nipuna Ramanayake, a student of the Sri Lanka Institute of Technological Studies at Kaduwela. Shayamalie Priyadarshini Perera, wife of former Colombo Crime Division, Director Vas Gunawardana, their son, Ravindu, three Sub Inspectors and nine constables are among the suspects. All suspects were further remanded till September 15. The Judge stated that the Magistrate’s Court did not have the jurisdiction to grant bail to the suspects and an application for bail should be made to the High Court. |
