

KANDY - Two second year Medical Students of the University of Peradeniya, supporters of the anti-ragging faction, were brutally assaulted while returning to their Hall of Residence on Wednesday (02) night.
The two students, Kasun Rambukwella and Weerasinghe, are being treated at the surgical ward of the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.
They were returning after watching the stage play "Tharavo Igillethi" at the theatre ‘Wala’ of the university.
The University spokesman said yesterday (03) that the incident was being investigated by University Professor Dr. Asoka Dangolla.
It is learnt that the victims are supporters of the anti-ragging faction of the University of Peradeniya.
According to a highly placed campus official the anti-ragging movement at the university is growing popular while ragging supporters are diminishing in numbers.
