New Tri-Star Apparel factory at Trincomalee
A new BOI factory of Tris-Star Apparel Exports was opened at Thambalagamuwa in Trincomalee. The factory, located just 10 kilometers from Trincomalee, is built on 5 acres of land and represents an investment of US$ 2 million. It will be manufacturing ready made garments such as baby wear and clothes for children and will be exported mainly to the United Kingdom, to companies such as Debenhams, Marks and Spencers and Mothercare.

Among the guests were Namal Rajapaksa, Chairman of the Tharuniyata Hetak Movement who spoke of the importance of youth in development. Other distinguished invitees at the opening were Minister of Nation Building S.M.Chandrasena, Minister of Nation Building Susantha Punchinilame, Minister of Co-operatives Abdul Majeed, Governor of the North Eastern Province Adm. Mohan Samarawickrama, Chief Minister of the Eastern Province S.Chandrakanthan, Chairman/ Director General of the BOI Dhammika Perera.

This opening by a leading manufacturer of apparel is significant as it sends a very clear message to the investor community both overseas and at home that Sri Lanka is back in business and ready to meet all the challenges ahead.

In addition, the opening of such a significant apparel manufacturing plant also provides an insight into the pivotal part in Sri Lanka’s future development that that the Eastern Province will play.
