Three women arrested with fake currency

Kekirawa Police arrested a woman, her sister and daughter with Rs 580,000 worth forged currency notes on Tuesday, when the trio attempted to pay the Kekirawa Court house canteen bill with a Rs 1,000 dud note after consuming some food.

Police on examining the house of the suspects at Vitharanagama discovered a computer that was used to prepare the format of the forged currency notes, a computer printer, ten bottles of various types of ink and paper used for the printing of the currency notes.

Among the dud currency notes recovered by the Police were 56 Rs 1000 denomination notes and 227 Rs 2000 denomination notes.

In her statement to the Police the main suspect said she had found the currency notes on the road side.

Police were questioning the suspects to ascertain as to how long they had been engaged in the printing of these dud currency notes and areas where they have used same earlier.

A team headed by Kekirawa OIC Chief Inspector Kapila Abeynayake are conducting further inquiries.
