Colombo Additional Magistrate Ayesha Abdeen, yesterday refused to
grant bail to an Executive Secretary of a Christian organisation,
arrested with a consignment of Compact Discs, allegedly depicting
security forces engaged in harassing Tamil nationals during the
‘Humanitarian Operation’ which was concluded in May this year. The
Magistrate ordered a further report on the investigations to be
submitted on the next date of hearing on September 23.
The Terrorists Investigations Division (TID), filing a B report, said
that the suspect Sampath Nihal Fernando, an Executive Secretary of the
National Christian Association, was taken into custody at Katunayake
Airport under the Prevention of Terrorism Act along with the CD’s which
were to be distributed in foreign countries.
