Jehan Perera rejects allegations against himself & Pakiasothy
Govt. accuses US of making war crimes case against SL

The government yesterday said that the US was rapidly making a case of war crimes against Sri Lanka on the basis of the conduct of her armed forces, police as well as the political leadership during the recently concluded war.Ministerial and Defence sources told The Sunday Island that former Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mr. Robert Blake, now based at the State Department was behind the move. They accused Dr. Jehan Perera of the National Peace Council and Dr. Pakyasothi Saravanamuttu of the Center for Policy Alternatives of being party to the US move.

More than 1000 inmates, including the sick and disabled and those over 70 years old, serving sentences for their inability to pay fines imposed by courts for minor offences, were released from prisons island-wide on a special presidential pardon yesterday. Tea wage talks remain deadlocked
The plantation wage demand remained deadlocked yesterday with the Regional Plantation Companies moving their offer up slightly to Rs. 370 a day on Friday from Rs. 360 the day before and the unions standing fast on their demand of Rs. 500.

Special Courts to try LTTE suspects
The Government has decided to set up special courts to clear the backlog of cases against thousands of LTTE suspects now under detention, Presidential Secretariat sources said yesterday.
