An extic wedding
with traditional and modern trapping

It was far from a simple wedding with more than 1000 guests from all over India and Sri Lanka. The wedding of Riyaz Majeed, a top businessman from Sri Lanka and Zeenat a banker from Bombay was held recently at Andagani Banquet Hall at Lokandwata Mumbai.

The reception was a grand celebration of glitz, glamour and colour at which many guests from Sri Lanka including the rich and famous were present.

Riyaz the tall handsome young man had rejected many proposals his parents brought for him until he met his sweetheart in Bombay. Love at first sight, both echoed.

This proposal came through his mother who was adamant that Riyaz should marry this year. So she went all the way to Bombay to find the girl of his son’s dreams. When Riyaz met Zeenat he immediately set his eyes on her and the rest is history he quipped with a smile.

When Riyaz’s mother Wazeera saw Zeenat she was convinced that. Zeenat who hails from a prominent Bombay family would make a perfect match and make a perfect couple.

Zeenat was the perfect mix of modern and traditional values, beautiful with strong features and more than all educated.

Riyaz is widely travelled and lived in Canada before he took over the family business here.

Finally the two exchanged rings at a dinner, they agreed and definitely a spark between the two led to a quick wedding in Bombay.

The wedding was picture perfect with all the trappings of a modern Muslim wedding.

The bride was a picture of elegance in a white heavily embroidered outfit with heavy gold jewellery to complement, the couple the bridegroom wore traditional Indian outfit in pure silk

The grandeur and magnificence of the wedding was followed by a grand banquet in Bombay

The Waleema ceremony was held in Sri Lanka at the Colombo Hilton with many guests and the immediate members of the bride flying from Bombay to witness a typical Sri Lankan Muslim wedding.

For the Waleema the bride wore a lovely Indian outfit in red and carried a bouquet of red roses with jewellery to match

The parents also held a grand Mehendi ceremony in Bombay in keeping with tradition. It was a recreation of the Hindu movie with song, dance and colour.

Riyaz is the son of A. C. M. Majeed and Sithy Wazeera Majeed and Zeenat, the daughter of Navid A. Rais and Shahla N. Rais.

Neha Rais the bride’s sister did an excellent organization job in making the wedding a memorable one.

Zeenat is now settled in Sri Lanka with her husband. Riyaz’s mother Wazeera was full of smiles when I paid them a visit to their home at Wellawatte she quipped "We are very happy with Zeenat she fits into our family perfectly well’
