I was horrified to see in the Sunday Times that some 200 goats were Slaughtered in public at a Kovil in Munneswaram, Chilaw in the presence of the police, a PHI and thousands of devotees - including men women and children.
The slaughter of animals is prohibited in public, so how come the police allow this?
Swords were used to slaughter these poor innocent goats in front of all these people.
Animal sacrifice is not done in any civilized country. Great men like Gautama Buddha, Mahatma Gandhi and Krishnamurti were against this cruel disgusting practice.
Watching this brutal slaughter will only make the devotees criminal minded. If you can kill a living animal so cruelly, the people watching will get "brutalised".
I implore President Mahinda Rajapaksa who is a strong Buddhist leader to stop these heinous crimes in Buddhist Sri Lanka.
Several of my Tamil Hindu friends telephoned me to say that they are all against this shocking crime.
