

Last year’s Bowl champions Dudley Senanayaka Maha Vidyalaya came up with a an outstanding performance to beat the vastly improved Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya in the Cup final by 14 points (two goals) to nil at the Seewali Grounds Ratnapura on September 12, in the Under-14 All Island Div. II 10-a-Side rugby tournament.
The Senanayake lads played superb rugby right throughout the tournament and beat all their opponents comfortably. Skipper Dananjaya Sandaruwa was a source of inspiration to his team mates with his fiery loose play and succeeded in scoring a try right under the posts in the fourth minute. This was followed by centre S. Madushanka who barged in for a try under the posts in the seveth minute.
There was no scoring in the second half.
The Plate was won by St. Sebastian’s College, Kandana who beat D. B. Welegedara Maha Vidyalaya, Kurunegala by 12 points to nil while the Bowl was won by Nugawela Central, Kandy, five nil during extra time. They beat Sri Rahula College, Kandy.
More than 300 participants from 24 schools took part in the tournament.
The tournament was organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) and sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd.
The chief guest was the Governor/Justice Sabaragmuwa Province, Janaka Bandara, while the guest of honour was Dr. K. A. D. Punniyadasa (President, SLSRFA).
The final was officiated by Asela Muthumala.
