Medawachchiya Police arrested a man who was running a roaring business of collecting water from wells and springs in the Isinbessagama area and selling it as purified bottled water. A large quantity of empty plastic bottles and labels carrying the brand name of an approved bottled water manufacturing company with SLS certification was also taken into custody.

Police investigations revealed that the suspect from Matara had recently moved into the area, rented a two-storeyed building on the main Medawachchiya-Kebitigollewa road and was carrying on the business.

Thousands of bottles of water in sizes of one and half litre, one litre and half litre, ready for distribution, were also taken into custody. The labels on these bottles carried the name of an approved bottled water manufacturing company based in Urubokka, Matara.

Further investigations are being conducted by OIC Medawachchiya Police CI Anura Kodituwakku, SI G. Vidanagamage and a team of police officials.
