Trinity College, Kandy, opened their cricket season in grand style when they thrashed a rather inexperienced Sri Rahaula College, Katugastota, by an inning and 92 runs, in the annual cricket fixture of the two schools, held at Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy yesterday.
Trinity, taking the first lease of the wicket, set a modest 223 for nine declared thanks to a blazing 93 runs made by opener, Kithmal Wimalaweera, in 82 deliveries, which included 12 boundaries and a six. They later bundled out Sri Rahula for 103.
The visitors, who were forced to follow on, could not withstand the experienced and menacing spin attack, and had to suffer a shocking defeat as all their wickets fell to a humiliating total of 28 runs.
It was off spinner, Suresh Wickrama who stole the limelight for Trinity with a match bag of eight for 26. In the process, spinners Rushan Jaleel, Chinthaka Gokula and Tissa Bandara ably supported him to record this mammoth win.
