Seven-Judge-Bench to hear PBJ’s reversal motion today

A seven-Judge-bench of the Supreme Court will today hear the motion filed by the former Secretary to the Treasury Dr. P. B. Jayasundera seeking to reverse an affidavit he gave to the Court.

Jayasundera has, in his submissions, said that the government asked for his return in view of mega-development projects undertaken in the post-LTTE period.

The motion requested the Court to revoke the affidavit submitted on a Supreme Court directive that he would not hold any public office consequent to the Supreme Court Judgment on the Lanka Marine Services Limited (LMSL) case.

In this Case, petitioner, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, complained to the Court about the privatisation of the highly profitable public venture.

The Judgment ordered that the land be re-vested in the State. The motion filed by Dr. Jayasundera, will be supported by Faiz Mustapha, PC. M. A. Sumanthiran with Viran Corea, will appear for Vasudeva nanayakkara, who is made a respondent in the motion.

The Bench will comprise, the Chief Justice Asoka de Silva, Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake, Justice Shirani Tilakawardene, Justice Jagath Balapatabandi, Justice K. Sripavan and Justice P. A. Ratnayake.
