Speaking to The Island from the Galle prison, an irate Muttuhettigama, who is also the SLFP organiser for Akmeemana, said that he had reacted angrily as he felt the police had sided with actress Anarkali Akarsha, also contesting the Galle district on the UPFA ticket.

Nishantha said that he respected the judiciary and would strive to maintain peace among candidates contesting the October 10 polls on the government ticket.

He said that he would not give up politics due to the recent problems caused by members of his own party. He expressed confidence that people of the Galle District would help him to overcome obstacles and realize his political dream.

The Magistrate also directed the prison authorities to refer him to a psychiatrist through the prisons medical officer and submit a report to Court on his mental condition.
