An impassioned look at our foreign policy
As a concerned citizen of Lanka I feel that we must consider the views expressed in the interview given by an NGO head - Dr Kumar Rupesinghe to The Island (September 25, 2009), even though I do not have any special love for many NGOs or INGOs in the country.
I think that we must seriously revisit our foreign policy and adjust ourselves as non-aligned. In a democratic world we should discuss, and compromise without being foolish.
We cannot afford to remain in splendid isolation, because we are part of the world community. We must take a realistic view of things and act accordingly. We must not brand everybody in the island and outside as our enemies.
There are pseudo patriots and ignorant people amongst us who do the damage to the country by their exuberance bordering on insanity.
We must take the positive suggestions made by KR seriously for us to ward off the verbal onslaught on us and our country by equally ignorant people outside the country.
