      Editorial:Lanka's cost-effective war on terror
Fifteen candidates of the JVP yesterday complained to the Supreme Court that the Road Development Authority (RDA) had complained to the Tangalle police that the JVP drew ‘Bell’ symbols and crosses on the roads in Hambantota District, and thereby impaired the maintenance of the public highway. But the RDA had failed to complain to the police about the betel leaf symbols and the crosses painted on the roads in the same area, in favour of the UPFA Candidates, the JVP said.
The painting of party symbols, has been done in view of the Provincial Council polls to be held in the Southern province on October 10, 2009.
The petitioners are the JVP candidates of the Hambantota District.
As a result of the complaint by the RDA, the police have filed a ‘B report’ in the Magistrate’s Court of Tangalle. The fifteen JVP candidates have been noticed to appear in Court as suspects.

Bitter Salt
Today is Universal Childrens’ Day but not all children are fortunate to celebrate it. This child was seen yesterday pushing a cart load of packeted salt in the Pettah to earn a living.
