Fashions at Noon

Every year when this popular hostess who is a contributer to many a magazines and newspapers asks her friends and family to lunch in a leading wome’s Club in Colombo, she gathers a host of the best dressed people in town. This time her theme for the decor was red and white, and was the ideal setting for the many styles of elegance. The hostess herself wore a printed saree in black an amber with a blouse in the amber which was sleeveless.

Among her friends were many a familiar face with Shantha de Zoysa in a printed saree in white, mauve and aquamarine, she wore with a three quarter sleeve blouse in a light tone of the blue. The saree Goolbai Gunasekera wore was a kangiveram silk in a beige and light shade of rust, she teamed with a beige blouse, and pearls for ornaments. A Kandyan saree in off white was etched in a design of bronze in a design of roses and leaves with some of the flowers scattered in a sprinkling of matt bronze sequins. A large smoky topaz made her pendent, and she also wore a strand of bronze pearls. Nalini Senanayake had her white kurti embroidered in blue thread to wear with white pants, and in styles more inclined to the west were Sandra Fonseka, Amali Wijewardene, Nedra Wickremasinghe and Bettina Chitty.

Also among the others were Rohini Cooray, Sonia Arnolda, Anusha David, Tara Cooray, Mela Karunanayake, Ranjanie Wijewardene and two men among three, Jith Pieris and Koluu Ranawake.

A one man singer sang old time favourites which were a hit with the women.
