Wimal Weerawansa, MP last week told a propaganda rally held in support of UPFA candidates contesting Southern Provincial Council election now that the LTTE had been eradicated fishermen could have a pawula (read as wife) on both northern and southern coasts.
A smiling National Freedom Front leader said that this was one of the many benefits of the government’s war victory over the LTTE. He added that fishermen could easily move between the families depending on the rough seas experienced by them on each coast.
The NFF fielded three candidates on the UPFA ticket with one each for the three southern districts. Among them was Weerawansa’s brother, Sarath, placed on the UPFA Matara list. (SF)
