Susil: Postal voting result evidence of public servants’
support for govt.
Of the total number of valid postal votes, the government received 22,095 votes at the southern provincial council elections, while the UNP managed to obtain 4,647 and the JVP 2,398, respectively. Of those who sought to exercise their franchise by way of postal votes, 1,353 did not take the opportunity. A spokesman for the Elections Secretariat said that 580 postal votes had been rejected. UPFA General Secretary Susil Premjayantha told The Island that the postal voting result was evidence that government servants had overwhelmingly backed the UPFA.
