Debate on Obama’s selection for Nobel Peace Prize is raging in the international media. Some of the leading newspapers have headlined as Win now pay tomorrow. Writers who supported the choice as well as those who have opposed have shown valid reasons for both cases. Therefore we are not going to take any side in this issue.
One would believe that Oslo decided to change its ways and begin giving out deferred Nobel Prizes as suggested above. Now the question is which group Obama will join as laureate, Henry Kissinger, Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres and Yasser Arafat or the real respected laureates like Martin Luther King, Jr., Nelson Mandela, Mikhail Gorbachev, Aung San Suu Kyi and Mother Teresa.
Although nothing achieved so far in Middle East but the people of the region could not help being impressed by the new spirit ushered in by Obama. Negotiation with Iran, a handshake with Hugo Chavez, relaxed approach toward Cuba, tolerance toward North Korea and the cancellation of missile shield in Eastern Europe are some of the important steps Obama took during his very short period in office. What a change from his warmongering predecessor’s rule. Aren’t these points not good enough to select him as the winner? In the meantime, who can deny the fact that America has become less hated in the world now and who do you think should claim credit for this?
