KDCA to conduct schools cricket sixes shortly

Sixteen schools will vie for honours at the Kandy District Schools Six-a-Side cricket tournament, organised by the Kandy District Cricket Association, which will be worked off in Kandy, shortly.

The secretary of the Kandy District Cricket Association Roland Perera, at a meeting convened at the regional office of the Central Province Cricket Association said that though schools in the Kandy district play the longer version of the game, there is very little or no tournaments of the shorter version of the game. Hence, the decision by the KDCA to organise this tournament.

The entire cost of the tournament will be borne by the association. This is being done in order to help the schools. Valuable prizes will be offered to the winners.

The Chairman of the Tournament Committee, Densil Hettiarachchi said that depending on the success of this tournament, a Twenty20 cricket tournament for schools will be conducted in the future.

The teams which have entered the tournament are, Trinity College, Dharmaraja College, St. Anthony’s College, Kingswood College, Vidyartha College, St. Sylvester’s College, Sri Rahula College, Sri Sumangala College, Mahanama College, Zahira College, Gampola, Wickramabahu College, Azahara Central College, Akurana Madusha Central College, Galagedara Central College, Berranwatte College, Gateway International School, Nugawela Central College and Walala A. Ratnayake Central College.

The teams will be divided into two segements.
