113th Birth anniversary of Sir Cyril de Zoysa

The Bodhi Trust, Kalutara has organised a series of religions ceremonies to commemorate the 113th Birth anniversary of late Sir Cyril de Zoysa the founder of the Bodhi Trust, Kalutara on October 26, 2009.

The religious ceremonies have been organised under the guidance of Ajith de Zoysa - the Chairman of the Bodhi Trust and its Secretary Tilak de Zoysa.

The late Sir Cyril de Zoysa was born on October 26, 1896. He was the second son of Solomon and Harriet de Zoysa of Kankanamgedara Watta, Balapitiya in the Galle District.

Sir Cyril de Zoysa, was good Buddhist, able politician and a farsighted businessman.

Being a man of wealth, he generously contributed to the religious and social welfare of the people.

He rendered a laudable service to the town of Kalutara by establishing the Kalutara Bodhi Trust in 1951, for the maintenance of the historic Bodhi at Kalutara.

He founded the Balika Vidyalaya, Kalutara, and the Kalutara Vidyalaya bordering the Galle Road. They are both leading educational institutions in Kalutara.

Sir Cyril dedicated his life, wealth, time, labour, in the cause of the country nation and the religion. The religious programme to be held on October 26, will be as follows.

6.00 a.m.: ‘Kiripidu pooja’ offered in the premises of Kalutara Bodhi, will be conducted by the Ven. Padukke Saddhadaja thera.

9.00 a.m.: Garlanding of the statue of the late Sir Cyril de Zoysa.

11.30 a.m.: Offering of dana to 50 Bhikkhus.

The Bodhi Trust - Kalutara invites devotees to participate in these religious ceremonies.
