Malwatte Maha Nayake Thera urges US Ambassador
to convey true picture of Lanka to the US

KANDY - Since some countries distorted information about the current situation of Sri Lanka it had become imperative for foreign diplomat in Sri Lanka to provide correct information to their countries, said the most venerable Tibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake Thera of Malwatte, when US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Patricia Butenis visited him on Saturday (24).

The Mahanayake Thera said he believed that Ms Butenis would correct any misconceptions her country might have of Sri Lanka’s current situation.

The prelate told the ambassador that some western countries had totally misread the race relations in Sri Lanka. He said the war that had been fought was against only terrorism and not any particular ethnic community.

The government had taken measures to re-settle the war displaced and some of them had already returned home, the prelate said.

US Ambassador Ms Patricia Butenis said she had visited Vavuniya and she would take remedial measures if her country had received any misinformation about the situation in Sri Lanka.

The prelate gifted a Buddha statue to the ambassador, who offered ata pirikara to the thera.

Cultural Affairs Officer of the US Embassy Glen Davis and Ramya Weerasinghe accompanied the ambassador.

US Ambassador also paid a courtesy call on the prelate of Asgiriya and visited the Sri Dalada Maligawa .
