Sri Lanka play host Kiwis

Sri Lanka has been drawn in Group ‘C’ along with the host for the forthcoming ICC Under-19 Cricket world Cup which will be worked off from January 15-30 in New Zealand.

Sri Lanka is pooled with New Zealand, Zimbabwe and Canada in group ‘C’ according to the confirmed match schedule released to media yesterday.

The ICC’s ten full member countries and six Associate and Affiliate members who qualified for the event have been drawn in four groups. The fixtures of Groups A and C are based in and around Christchurch, teams in Group B playing their matches in Queenstown and Group D games taking place in Napier and Palmerston North, according to a press release issued by ICC.

Sri Lanka will play all their Group matches in and around Christ Church as the fixtures of Group ‘A’ and ‘C’ will be played in that city.

The tournament will commence with three matches on January 15 with defending champions India meeting Afghanistan, Pakistan facing the West Indies and 2008 beaten finalist South Africa taking on Ireland.

Sri Lanka will play their first match against Zimbabwe at Bert Sutcliffe on January 17 and will take on Canada, on the following day. They will encounter the host team on January 20.

Sri Lanka will meet Hong Kong and India in practice matches before the tournament proper.

Group A: India, England, Afghanistan, Hong Kong

Group B: South Africa, Australia, Ireland, USA

Group C: New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Canada

Group D: Pakistan, Bangladesh, West Indies, Papua New Guinea
