Shepherd a great human being - Sanga

Sri Lanka’s captain Kumar Sangakkara called umpire David Shepherd who passed away on Wednesday as a ‘great human being’. Umpire Shepherd one of the most experienced umpires in world cricket having stood in three successive World Cup finals and over 90 Test Matches retired in 2005 and died at the age of 68 in England.

"I liked umpire Shepherd’s honesty on the field. A few umpires were willing to accept mistakes. Those attributes made him a good umpire and the players respected him. He was also a great human being," Sangakkara said.

Sri Lanka Cricket announced yesterday that they had sent a letter of condolence to the umpire’s family.
