ACGMOA warning on swine flu
The All Ceylon Government Medical Officers Association has sounded a warning on the increasing incidents of swine flu right across the country and urged the authorities to establish an isolation unit in all premier hospitals in the country to treat the patients effectively.
Referring to a patient now warded in the Intensive care Unit of the Matara Hospital, the Association said that the doctors and medical staff in Sri Lanka are not much experienced in treating this new disease. Swine flu was first detected in the country only in June this year when a local youth who arrived from Australia tested positive.
The Association also said that the country’s medical staff should be educated on this virus and hospitals should be equipped with enough stocks of anti-virus vaccines and other necessary equipment.
It said the Medical Research Unit is ill equipped to test all samples sent from hospitals islandwide and the MRI should be provided with more laboratory facilities.
