The Beliatta Pradeshiya Sabha plans to launch a Solid Waste Management Project to overcome the problem of disposing heaps of garbage.

A block of land at Sitinamaluwa, within the Beliatta Pradeshiya limits has been selected for the proposed compost fertiliser project funded by the Central ‘Environment Authority’ (CEA) under its ‘Pilisaru’ programme and the Department of Local Government.

Chairman of the Beliatta Pradeshiya Sabha Cyril Moonasinghe told ‘The Island’ that Rs. 13,201,974.52 would be given by the CEA while the Local Government Department would contribute Rs. 564185.48 for the project. The total cost of the project would be Rs. 15566560.00, he said.

Parallel to the compost fertiliser project an agricultural farm too will be set up close to the compost fertiliser factory.
