The Rs. 50 pension deduction
I have read over a dozen letters complaining about the above unauthorised deduction by the Director General of the Pensions Dept. In his letter in The Island of 28th October, S. Abeywickrama, in the last paragraph refers to the Rs. 50.00, as a negligible amount. But to a poor pensioner who can hardly make ends meet with his paltry pension, this is a princely sum. What is surprising is that no action has been taken by the minister in charge of the Pensions Dept. to summon the DGP and call for his explanation as to why he resorted to this high handed act of:
(1) Making this unauthorised deduction
(2) Donating the sums so collected to a fund of his own choice without the consent of the poor pensioner.
I believe he does not deserve to hold this post any longer.
