Flintoff set to sign new Lancashire contract
Lancashire are hopeful that Andrew Flintoff will sign a new contract in the next few weeks that will see him make more appearances in the County Championship than he has for several years.
The all-rounder retired from Test cricket after England’s Ashes victory this summer, after a series of injuries, in an effort to prolong his career as a one-day and Twenty20 specialist for England and in the Indian Premier League.
However, Lancashire’s coach, Peter Moores, is keen for Flintoff to keep playing the four-day game and the county will be keen for their talisman to help promote their brand.
Lancashire need to press ahead with the redevelopment of Old Trafford, which is crucial to preserve their status as a regular Test venue.
Flintoff is in Dubai as he rebuilds his fitness following the knee operation he had immediately after the victory over Australia.
He has begun swimming and weight-training and has targeted England’s one-day series in Bangladesh in February for his comeback.
