


Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama says visiting Bulgarian President Georgi Paranov is keen that the European Union extended the GSP Plus trading facilities to Sri Lanka.
The discussion over the GSP Plus issue was a positive one showing how Sri Lanka is benefited from GSP and the consequences of losing the trade concessions, Bogollagama said.
"Paranov reacted positively on the discussion of GSP, and he showed a keen interest on the topic to help Sri Lanka being one of the 27 countries of the European Union," he said.
The Bulgarian President arrived in Sri Lanka for two days of discussions bringing with him 70 business delegates. He showed a keen interest in Sri Lanka and showed a willingness of helping the country, the Foreign Minister said.
He met the Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka yesterday at Taj Samudra hotel to discuss Sri Lanka’s situation after the three-decade war and the future plans of the Government.
Bulgaria has shown a positive response over helping Sri Lanka’s development plans in The Northern and Eastern provinces.
"The arrival of 70 business delegates, is a positive approach of Bulgaria, it would be an advantage for a country like Sri Lanka to take advantage of the keen interest shown," Bogollagama said.
With a 48-year diplomatic bond between the two countries this is an opportunity to further strengthen bilateral ties, with the country now poised for serious development," the Foreign Minister said. The Bulgarian President met President Mahinda Rajapaksa as well, prior to his depature last evening.
