Action against errant drug companies:
Health Minister has reneged on his promise  — GMOA
The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) denounced a statement by Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva over sub-standard drugs.

The GMOA did not endorse the distribution of sub-standard drugs and had no faith in the distribution system, GMOA General Secretary Dr. Bimantha Gunasakare told The Island.

Dr. Gunasakare said pieces of glass had been found in some phials containing vital medicine at Ratnapura and Elpitiya. But, the Health Minister was not concerned with the gravity of the situation, he said.

The Health Minister had, Dr. Gunasakare said, promised to appoint a special committee to investigate the incidents and prosecute the errant companies. But so far no action against the errant companies had been taken. The delay on his part was indicative of the Minister’s inefficiency, he said. Dr. Gunasakare said that although a number of committees had been appointed to probe incidents, no action had been taken against the culprits.
