SLC official website down and out

On Friday, the Chairman of the Cricket Interim Committee D. S. de Silva, speaking at the inaugural cricket awards, asked those present at the event to be patient and give him three years to put all ills affecting cricket in the country right.

Fast forward to 8th of October 2009, when at the launch of the same event, the Interim Committee’s secretary Nishantha Ranatunga said that corporate bodies were scared to associate with the game’s governing body due to the negative publicity it attracts.

Probably, the secretary should have added a couple more aspects as well that discourages corporate bodies to duck relations with SLC; its incompetence and lacklustre attitude. Wonder why? Just visit Sri Lanka Cricket’s official website, www.srilankacricket.lk

The lead news in the web page is ‘Welagedara makes Test comeback’, a story that’s one week old. It’s been four days since the awards ceremony took place, but still no pictures are up and running. The lead pictures in the official website are of the launch of cricket awards scheme that took place on the 8th of October.

When you click the news item ‘Welagedara makes Test comeback’, you find Angelo Mathews’ name spelt ‘Anjelo Mathews’ in the Test squad, but as you go down and find the T-20 team, his name is spelt ‘Anjelow Mathews’.

The website has a section called ‘vacancies’ in its home page and according to that, the post for the assistant coach of the national team is still vacant.

That’s not all. In the section called upcoming matches, also in the main page, what you get on top is Sri Lanka’s tour of New Zealand, which incidentally ended on the 14th of September.

At this rate, if you give D. S. three years, he will only ‘plague’ the place with all his relatives and ruin the sport.
