Agrarian Services Commissioner Ravindra Hewapathirana said that farmers had cultivated 42,331 acres of fallow land in districts outside the Northern and Eastern Provinces last year.

Addressing a gathering at Siridamma Vidyalaya, Labuduwa, Galle, he said that the government was able to meet its target comfortably. He said that the success of a government programme to increase production would largely depend on their ability to convince the farmer community.
