Lara speaks out on current state of Windies cricket

CaribWorldNews, LONDON, England, Weds. Nov. 4, 2009: Former West Indies Skipper, Brian Charles Lara, is mincing no words when it comes to his analysis of West Indies cricket and the new squad.

Lara tells the Courier Mail that West Indies cricket remains `in limbo` despite the appointment of Chris Gayle to lead the team to Australia later this month.

`What`s happened over the last six months must have an effect on team spirit and the guys jelling together,` Lara said. `West Indian cricket is still in limbo at the moment and it`s hard to assess what is going on. For the last six to eight months we have been playing with a very sub-standard team. It`s hard to find a position of where we are at.’

Lara says despite the fact that the strike is over and senior players like Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan are back in the fold, there are still problems to sort out `and it`s even tougher to sort those things out while you are playing cricket.
