SLFEB confirms beheading of Lankan and Indian nationals

The Chairman of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLFEB), Kingsley Ranawaka said the Saudi Arabian judiciary had sentenced and beheaded two Sri Lankans and an Indian national on Wednesday (04) for man slaughter and theft. The Sri Lankans and the Indian were found guilty of entering a home in Jodar, Saudi Arabia and strangling an old woman to death and robbing jewellery from the house in 2006.

The Saudi government arrested seven Sri Lankans and an Indian national for the murder and theft. The remaining Sri Lankan nationals were sentenced to a five year imprisonment while the appeal made by them had been rejected by the judiciary.

The sentenced woman was from Kinniya in Trincomalee and had gone several years ago as a house maid to Saudi. She was a mother of two children, he said. After reaching Saudi she had escaped from the home she had gone to work in and taken up another job. She is alleged to have had a relationship with the Indian national who was beheaded along with her and has two children for him.

Ranawaka said the SLFEB had taken steps earlier on a request made convicted woman to bring down the two children who were living in the Breaman prison camp in Saudi Arabia.
