Gen. Fonseka’s security not reduced - PM
Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake yesterday told darliament that security provided to Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka has not been reduced in any way.
Participating in the Emergency debate the Prime Minister said that there were rumours to the effect that the security of the former Commander of the Army had been reduced. The government had not reduced any security provided to General Fonseka, he said.
However, the case of providing lifelong security to the heads of security forces, after they retired, had some problems which were connected with Constitutional provisions.
The Attorney General had been consulted to review the Constitutional provisions and to sort out legal problems with the intention of providing lifelong security to defence top brass, he said.
Premier Wickremanayake’s statement was made in response to a query by JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake.
