Pallimunai Housing Project constructed within 100 days

The Housing Development Programme of Pallimunai, Mannar implemented by the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) under the "Uthuru Wasanthaya National Programme" has been completed within 100 days.

Fifty displaced fisheries families lived in temporary huts were selected for this housing project. The NHDA gave Rs. 325,000 to each family and provided all technical assistance. The savings of the beneficiary families, too were used in the construction.

The Government provided 10-perch plots of land for each family and space per house is over 500 sq.ft. The special feature of this housing project is that at least a sum of Rs. 200,000 has been invested by the beneficiaries from their own savings.

Roads, water, electricity, drains and other infrastructure facilities were provided by the various government institutions and other organisations with the guidance of the District Secretary of Mannar.

The Pallimunai Housing Project of Mannar is scheduled to be opened this month by Minister of Housing and Common Amenities, Mrs. Ferial Ashraff and the senior Presidential Advisor and Chairman of "Uthuru Wasanthaya National Co-ordinating Committee" and Member of Parliament Mr. Basil Rajapaksa.
