Sri Lanka’s number one schoolboy swimmer, Heshan Unamboowe has been appointed captain of the Sri Lanka swimming team, for the 11th South Asian Games to be held in Bangladesh, early next year.

Heshan Unamboowe who established a National record at the National and Junior National Swimming Championships held recently which served as a selection trial for the South Asian Games will participate in six events while his teammate, Olympian Conrad Francis will take part in four events.

Unamboowe, in an interview with ‘The Island’ said that he was very happy and excited to lead the Sri Lanka team at the next SAG, but the South Asian Games medalist, was disappointed that next year’s regional games will feature less long course events.

"For the next South Asian Games in Bangladesh, the organizers have reduced the number of long course events and I am disappointed about that because it will be a disadvantage for long course swimmers," Unamboowe said.
