All eyes on Jaffna as knockout stage commences
All eyes will be on the unbeaten Jaffna Under-15 team as they meet defending champions Kandy, in one of the most looked forwarded to matches in the knockout stage of the Prima Champions Trophy tournament that gets underway on Monday.
Jaffna, who are newcomers to this tournament recorded five wins in the first round to reach the knockout stage, comfortably.
Jaffna, captained by St. Patrick’s College all rounder Ajith Darwin will encounter Kandy, skippered by Trinity College’s Rajitha Jayathunga in the first quarter final of the tournament at Dambulla, on Monday.
There will be two other quarter finals on the same day at Darley Road and Moratuwa, where two Colombo teams take on outstation teams.
Colombo North ‘A’, under the captaincy of Sachin Jayawardena of Wesley College, will meet Galle District which is captained by Yohan Rashmika of Dharmasoka College, at Darley Road.
Meanwhile, Colombo South ‘A’, captained by Royalist Ronaka Ahangamage will encounter Kurunegala at Moratuwa. The Kurunegala team, dominated by Maliyadeva players is captained by wicket keeper bat Leo Francisco of the same school. The winners of that match will meet Badulla, who have received a bye, in the semi final. The semi finals will be played in Colombo on November 10.
With no reserve days allocated for the quarter finals and semi finals, a ‘bowl out’ will be used to determined the winners in case of abandonment of matches due to rain.
