

Sirimavo and St. Joseph’s in cager final
Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, Colombo fought back in the second half to secure a berth in the final against St. Joseph’s Girls’ School, Nugegoda, when they defeated St. Paul’s Milagiriya 71-45 in the semi-final of the Under-19 All Island Schools Girl’s Basketball tournament worked off at Nugegoda, on Thursday.
Sirimavo, who were trailing 31-25 at the end of the first half staged a remarkable fight back in the second half to win the match comfortably.
Erandhi Rajapaksha was the top scorer for winners, netting 31 points while Tushani Rajapaksha chipped in with 20 points.
For the losers, Lahiruka Weeraratne scored 17 points.
St. Joseph’s Girls’ School meanwhile, defeated Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala by 62 points to 58 in the second semi-final after getting a narrow first half lead. Solange Gunawijaya was outstanding as she accounted for 32 points, while Jayani Nugi chipped in with nine points.
Meanwhile, Diyuni Abeysinghe netted 29 points for the losers.
