Sri Lankans leave for India today
Sri Lanka’s national cricketers will take wing to Mumbai today for a six week long tour of three Test Matches, five One-Day Internationals and two T-20 Internationals. The tourists will be hoping that they will win their first ever Test on Indian soil, something they have not managed despite playing regular cricket with the neigbouring country.
If he sticks to his plans, this series will be world’s highest wicket taker Muttiah Muralitharan’s last Test tour. Muralitharan has indicated that he would retire from Test cricket after next year’s home Test series against the West Indies.
The Sri Lankans will heavily rely on the exploits of Muralitharan, who has troubled the Indians time and again.
Sri Lanka’s formidable batting line up comprising captain Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Thilan Samaraweera and Tillekeratne Dilshan will be expected to play a key role in the series.
Middle order batsman Thilina Kandamby and wicketkeeper batsman Kaushal Silva are the only uncapped players in the Sri Lankan line up.
They will have a new assistant coach in Australian Stuart Law, who has taken over from Englishman Paul Farbrace.
