Flare, flavour and originality at Galadari’s Coffee Shop

Galadari’s Coffee Shop which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner caters for many different nationalities, communities and cuisines. It is open to in-house guests and walk-ins who fancy something different. The motto of the staff and chefs at the Coffee Shop is to make their guests feel at home while dining, stated Ramalee Adjumain Assistant Director Food & Beverages.

Breakfast is served from 6am till 10.30am. The extensive buffet encompasses Western, Indian, Sri Lankan and Japanese cuisines as well as an egg station, which is highly popular, serving all types of eggs, omelettes, and scrumptious pancakes and waffles which are enjoyed by children and adults alike. A fruit, bread and pastry corner serve delicious freshly baked bread still warm from the oven. According to Imroze Salih Executive Chef the variety of food served at the buffet helps to keep a balanced, healthy and nutritious diet, the perfect way to start the day.

Lunch at the Coffee Shop consists of both a buffet and a la carte menu and runs from 12pm to 3pm. Like the breakfast, the lunch buffet consists of a multi cuisine spread; French, German, Sri Lankan, Chinese and Orient; again catering for an eclectic mix of guests and demands. The changing Show Cooking station is popular with the guests as are the salad and soup bar and the mouth watering dessert section, whose tempting display demands a deviation off course when passing by.

Similarly the dinner layout mirrors that of lunch with a buffet and a la carte menu on offer. Each day of the week has a theme attached ensuring diners with a varied experience and an assorted mix of cuisines. Starting with a Roast Grill on Monday the weeks subsequent buffets are Kebab and Fry, European, Seafood, Far East, International and the week culminates with a Cook and Eat buffet on Sunday. The most popular themed buffets are the Seafood and Kebab and Fry, said Ramalee Adjumain. Dinner runs from 7pm till 11pm, but the kitchen is open round the clock with a view of satisfying the guests every need.

Food and cooking is an art, the chef or artist has to perfect his dishes so that when placed in front of a guest all five senses are invoked and called upon. This, stated Imroze Salih, is what they strive to obtain at the Coffee Shop, and in my experience they have managed to do this with ease. The creative and original chefs at the Coffee Shop come up with new creations and invoke gastronomy in their cooking. Testing this Chef Imroze concocted a new and innovative dish; plain hoppers with ice cream, rolled and served as a dessert. This luscious and highly delicious creation proved to me once and for all that the chefs at the Galadari’s Coffee Shop were not just talking, but that they could really carry out what they preached. I was very impressed!

Prices at the Galadari Coffee Shop are very competitive and for what you get, they are in fact very good value. The breakfast buffet costs Rs. 900, lunch Rs. 1300 and dinner Rs. 1500. Service is prompt and friendly and the staff will go out of their way to ensure the guest has everything they desire, occasionally even if not on the menu; everything is carried out to make the guests experience as pleasurable as possible.
