Ice carvings

Jetwing St. Andrews organized the inaugural ice carving championship at the hotel premises N’Eliya weekend.

It was indeed a delight to see such magnificent creations being brought to life in ice sculptures by the participants.

There was no shortage of talent as all participants showcased to the fullest. It was indeed an extra ordinary difficult task for the judges to decide on a clear winner. Ultimately, the honours went to A. K Jayasekera of Mount Lavinia Hotel who was judged 3rd place, 2nd place was awarded to H. B. Dayananda of Amaya Lake. These two participants were awarded Silver Certificates for their performance. The winner’s trophy was won by L. G. A. G. Seneviratne of Amaya Lake who also obtained a Gold Certificate for his performance.

"We certainly achieved our objectives by organising this historic ice carving event for the first time in Nuwara Eliya and probably the first to host outside Colombo. We experienced an over whelming support from the public, participants, volunteers and the Chefs Guild of Sri Lanka. A special thanks to all our sponsors where Gills Foods and Aus Lanka were notable. Without the support of all these stakeholders and the commitment of my team this would have not been possible. Therefore, it will be appropriate to conclude that the event was a resounding success and we hope to make this an international event in the years to come" mentioned Renuke Coswatte, Manager of Jetwing St Andrew’s.
