

Former sports star Shivantha Vivekanandan was re-elected as President of the Deaf School Past Pupils’ Association for the seventh successive year at the 60th Annual General Meeting held at the Stanley Hall, the school for the Deaf, Ratmalana recently.
A distinguished past pupil of the school for the Deaf, Ratmalana and Maryline High School, Kollupitiya, he was a good sportsman as well as a brilliant student who won many awards in sports, art and studies. He represented the Deaf Recreation Club, Rajagiriya at cricket, athletics and table tennis where he won many trophies, medals, certificates and awards.
During Vivekanandan’s excellent stint as chairman, organizing committee, he organized the Deaf schools sports activities like netball, cricket and Volleyball (boys and girls), partnered by Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC (then Caltex Lubricants Lanka Ltd) from 2002 to 2010.
Vivekanandan who is an outstanding person, is the current President, Sri Lanka Deaf Cricket Association.
He played a key role in promoting playing leather ball cricket in Division III, organized by Sri Lanka Cricket.
He also is the Vice Chairman of the Asia Deaf Cricket Federation. He toured India with the Sri Lanka Deaf Cricket team for the 1st Asia Deaf Cricket Tournament in 2007 and also toured Pakistan in 2008 with the Sri Lanka Deaf Cricket Team, to play three ODI matches against the Pakistan Deaf Cricket team.
