FRANKFURT (AP) - About 30 masked football hooligans
attacked a train carrying rival fans when it stopped at a train station
in Germany. No one was injured.
Police say the hooligans carried baseball bats, iron
bars and other weapons and hurled stones when the train stopped Sunday
in Weddel, near Braunschweig. Police officers accompanying the traveling
Hannover fans prevented the two groups from clashing.
One carriage and the train station suffered substantial
damage. The assailants, believed to be rival Eintracht Braunschweig
supporters, fled in the darkness.
