

Vimukthi stars as Galle annihilate Colombo North A
Maduka Vimukthi hammered a blistering 74 runs in just 30 balls for Galle District to record a convincing eight wicket win over the formidable Colombo North ‘A’ in their Prima Champions Trophy Under-15 Inter-District tournament quarter-final match played at Darely Road yesterday.
Galle playing with an underdog tag, restricted the strong batting line up of Colombo North ‘A’ to a paltry 101 runs before amassing the victory target for the loss of two wickets in just 8.3 overs to cruise to the semi-finals.
With the bowling honours shared, the stage was set for a batsman to hog the limelight in Galle’s run chase and Vimukthi took the opportunity with both hands as he guided the side to an eight wicket victory with his blistering knock.
A batsman from Gamini Vidyalaya, Bentota, Vimukthi hit six fours and six sixes in his hurricane knock that came in just 30 balls.

Jaffna meet their waterloo
Debutants Jaffna who remained unbeaten in the first round met their waterloo yesterday as defending champions Kandy handed them an eight wicket defeat in the quarter-final match played at Dambulla yesterday.
A four wicket haul from Nuwan Karunaratne and a good double of three wickets and an unbeaten 28 runs from skipper Rajitha Jayatunga for Kandy were the highlights of the match.

Lahiru Milantha top scored with 89 runs while Julian de Zilva and Isuru Gunathilaka shared six wickets between them as Colombo South ‘A’ cruised to a 58 run victory over Kurunegala in their quarter-final match played at Moratuwa yesterday.
Milantha’s knock (in 122 balls) which anchored the Colombo South ‘A’ middle order included seven fours and three sixes.

The semi finals of the Prima Champions Trophy will be played at Ananda Mawatha and Bambalapitiya today.
While Galle take on Kandy at Ananda Mawatha, Colombo South ‘A’ will meet Badulla who received a walkover, in their semi final at St. Peter’s College Ground, Bambalapitiya.
